Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of ground beef or Italian sausage (or a combination of both)
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) of crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups of ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 box of lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or sausage over medium heat. Drain any excess fat and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 10 minutes.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, and egg. Stir until well mixed.
  6. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Place a layer of lasagna noodles on top of the meat sauce.
  8. Spread a layer of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
  9. Repeat steps 6-8 until you reach the top of the baking dish.
  10. Spread the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of the lasagna.
  11. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  12. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown and the pasta is cooked through.
  13. Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

This is a basic recipe for lasagna, but you can add or change ingredients according to your taste. Some people like to add spinach, mushrooms, or even eggplant to their lasagna. Feel free to experiment and find the perfect combination of flavors for your family.
