Ingredients:

  • For the Dough:
    • 1 cup warm milk
    • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
    • 1/2 cup white sugar
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • For the Filling:
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • For the Frosting:
    • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
    • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of white sugar. Stir until the yeast has dissolved and let it sit for 5 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
  2. Add the remaining sugar, butter, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour to the mixture, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare the filling by combining the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  7. Roll the dough out into a large rectangle on a floured surface. Brush the melted butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture on top.
  8. Starting from one of the long sides, tightly roll up the dough. Cut the roll into 1 1/2 inch slices and place them in the prepared pan.
  9. Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  10. Prepare the frosting by beating the cream cheese, butter, vanilla extract, confectioners’ sugar, and milk together until smooth.
  11. Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls. Serve immediately and enjoy!

This recipe makes approximately 12 cinnamon rolls. You can also make the dough ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use. Enjoy your homemade cinnamon rolls with a hot cup of coffee or milk!
