Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup hot water
2/3 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 1/3 cups buttermilk
1 cup chocolate chips
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Grease and lightly flour a 9″ square pan.
In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking soda and salt.
Set aside.
In a small bowl, stir cocoa and water into a smooth paste.
Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together shortening, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time.
Mix in the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk.
Mix in the cocoa paste until thoroughly combined.
Stir in chocolate chips.
Pour batter into pan and bake in oven for 40-50 minutes, or until baked.
Let cool slightly and serve.
