Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine
1 large Spanish onions, thinly sliced
1 garlic cloves, cut in half
1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds, coarsely chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
French bread (sliced 1/4-inch thick) or Italian bread ( sliced 1/4-inch thick)
1/4 lb quartered swiss cheese or 1/4 lb thinly sliced jarlsberg cheese

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375F.
In a 12″ skillet, melt butter over medium heat and cook onion, caraway seeds and salt, stirring occasionally, 14 minutes or until onions are golden.
Meanwhile, on baking sheet, arrange bread slices.
Bake 10 minutes or until edges are golden.
When cool slightly rub with garlic cloves.
Evenly top each bread slice with onion mixture, then cheese.
Bake 2 minutes or until cheese is melted.
Serve hot.
